People from the past seemed to live completely different lives… From the way they dressed, to the work they did, and even their inner-most thoughts. But they might have been more similar to us than we realize.
Some old paintings portray men and women as rigid and indifferent; while others inject ambiguous, thoughtful and moody expressions. Either way, they’re the perfect canvas for a bunch of hilarious modern-day memes. Classical art memes mix centuries-old masterpieces with today’s sense of humor by pairing dramatic historical expressions with painfully relatable everyday struggles. Add a spoonful of sarcasm, and you have a winning formula for comedy gold.
There’s a special corner of the internet where these gems reside. The Classical Sarcasm Facebook page has more than 850k followers, and provides endless amusement. We has put together a list of some of the best posts from the page, to prove that classical art can still be hilariously relevant in the digital age. Don’t forget to upvote your favorites.
